Sony Multi Com

Sony Multicom
1. What is SONY MULTICOM?
-
NBOT / VBOT normally controls cameras via the 2.5mm LANC port.
-
However, many recent Sony cameras (e.g., FX3, FX30, Alpha 7 series) do not have a LANC port and instead use the MULTIPORT (Multi Terminal).
-
SONY MULTICOM is an accessory designed so that NBOT users can fully control these Sony cameras through the Multi Terminal.
2. Extended Functions (Compared to LANC)
When used with NBOT/VBOT, MULTICOM allows:
-
Zoom, Focus, and IRIS control
-
Power ON/OFF control – turn the camera on and off remotely
-
Preset Save & Recall – synchronize NBOT / VBOT’s Pan/Tilt presets with the camera’s Zoom/Focus absolute position presets
-
REC/STOP trigger – remotely start and stop recording
3. Supported Camera Models
-
Sony FX3, FX30, Alpha 7 series (α7 IV, α7S III, etc.)
-
Alpha 9/1 series, ZV-E1, and other cameras equipped only with MULTIPORT
4. How It Connects to NBOT/VBOT
-
ZOOM Servo/ Tally port → SONY MULTICOM → Camera MULTIPORT
-
MULTICOM acts as a protocol converter, translating NBOT/VBOT’s LANC signals into Sony Multi Terminal commands.
-
No additional power source is required.
5. Field Advantages
-
Conceptually similar to VBOT with Canon XC Protocol
-
Enables full integration between camera controls and NBOT’s Pan/Tilt presets
-
Ideal for live production, studio setups, and remote shooting where complete camera control (including power) is required
Sony’s Multi Terminal connector. This is Sony’s proprietary 15‑pin port introduced around 2015, which looks similar to a micro‑USB plug but contains additional special-purpose pins for trigger signals, video out, data, and power.
. LANC Trigger Cables / Remote Controls
-
Sony offers Multiport to 2.5 mm LANC cables allowing remote control of camcorders (e.g. CX900, PXW‑X70, AX100). This enables zoom/shutter control from an external handle
-
A unique multipurpose connector used on many Sony cameras and camcorders (e.g. A‑series, RX-series, FX30, FX3, etc.).
-
Supports remote shutter control, audio/video output, power, and data transfer—often via external accessories like LANC controllers or remote release cables
